Each year, in the context of Volunteer
Appreciation Days, the Annapolis Heritage Society recognizes the contribution
of one of our outstanding volunteers. We are very pleased to introduce you to
our 2007 Volunteer of the Year, Garry Freeman.
Garry has been a volunteer with
AHS since its inception more than 40 years ago when he served as a student
guide at the newly opened O'Dell House Museum. Active in the community as a
Member of Session for St. George and St. Andrew's United Church of Canada, and
member of the Champlain and Clements Garden Clubs, Garry has brought his
special talents to bear in steering the creative team that each year decorates
the O'Dell House Museum for the Society's signature event, Victorian Christmas.
Using traditional materials such as evergreen boughs and hollies, berries and
fruit, Garry brings his artistic and heritage sensibilities to the fore as he
guides the transformation of the museum for the holiday season. His interest
and commitment have turned a complicated decorating process into a day of fun
for our volunteers.
With his great appreciation for
heritage, Garry has served on the Board of Directors of the Annapolis Heritage
Society, on the Society's North Hills Museum Committee and as a board member of
the Historical Association of Annapolis Royal. The Annapolis Heritage Society
is proud to recognize Garry Freeman as our 2007 Volunteer of the Year.
