The Archives of the Annapolis Heritage Society is
located at the O'Dell House Museum. It comprises thousands of original
photographs, journals and documents, business records, town newspapers,
scrapbooks and reference materials which detail the business and social life of
Annapolis Royal and surrounding areas. A wonderful
example is our picture history of the rebuilding of the Port Royal Habitation,
from 1938 to 1940.
An archival accession register
initiated in 1988 has since recorded over 1000 accessions, organized into three
main categories: family records, public records and business records, although
these distinctions are sometimes arbitrary. Family records describe material
commonly collected for personal or family reasons. Public records include
school, church, government, clubs and community organization records that
constituted public bodies. Business records consist of the records of
commercial enterprises.
