United Empire Loyalist Genealogies
At the end of the war, some 1600 refugees landed on the shores of the Annapolis Basin. These people, who in many cases had suffered numerous hardships and inhumanities, had chosen to stay loyal to the British Crown. They were among a group who would become known to history as the United Empire Loyalists. Contrary to popular belief, the Loyalists represented all segments of 18th century society rather than just the Tory elite. In fact, among their ranks, the Loyalists include everyone from slaves and indentured labourers to Governors. In the series Loyalists to Annapolis County, four O'Dell House Museum volunteers (Ina Oliver, Denise Rice, Ruth Ritchie and Frank Taylor) have traced the genealogy of five of these Loyalist families.

Master Artificer John Easson and his Descendants
Master Artificer John Easson and his Descendants
is another recent title from the Annapolis Heritage Society Genealogy Centre. John Easson, of unknown British origins, was commissioned as a carpenter by the Board of Ordnance in London in 1737. He was stationed to the garrison at Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, and it is here that, in 1739, he received a grant of 520 acres. Easson remained a prominent participant in the military and business affairs of Annapolis Royal until his death. This genealogy chronicles the Easson family as well as many affiliated families including Hall, Hardwick, Hoyt, Ritchie and Saunders. The cost is $41.00 Canadian, including shipping and handling.
Yorkshire Settler Genealogies
The Yorkshire Settlers came to Annapolis County from Yorkshire, England, in 1774 and 1775. While the group emigrated for a variety of reasons, most were either seeking better employment or were forced off their land by landlords seeking to create larger farms. With the exception of the Jefferson and Hawkesworth families, all of the settlers purchased land in Granville Township. Their farms stretched back from the Annapolis River over the North Mountain to the Bay of Fundy. Many of the descendents of these settlers still live in Annapolis County.
